Stacy Davis Gates receives pay increase for her role as president of Illinois teachers union — Evanston Schools news

Stacy Davis Gates recently received a pay raise for her role as President of the Illinois Federation of Teachers. Multiple sources told NBC Chicago the IFT Executive Board approved earlier this month a pay bump from $180,000 to $250,000 a year. But that’s just one of Gates salaries. She also receives money as president of the Chicago Teachers Union, where published reports say she earned $195,000 in 2025. That brings her total annual salary to $445,000. Stacy Davis Gates was previously the vice president of the Illinois Federation of Teachers, a statewide organization made up of more than 200 local unions throughout Illinois. She was tapped to lead the group as president in October 2025. It represents more than 100,000 teachers, college faculty and public employees across the state. Former president, Dan Montgomery, who served more than a decade in the role, earned nearly $280,000 annually in the role at the time he retired.
